What the hell happened to Mr. Barry Obama? Back in Denver, up on the stage, he was on fire like a messiah. Now he’s washed out, wan, tired — he looks like he needs Geritol. The guy starts talking these days and your eyes just glaze over. For God’s sake, man. Say something short. Something punchy. Stop rambling and doing that fake smile where you try to pretend you’re not angry. Thomas Friedman captures it well in hiscolumn today. Money quote: “In recent weeks, I feel as though [Obama] has lost that gut connection.” That’s putting it mildly. The other night I watched Obama being interviewed by Keith Olbermann and I wanted to weep. Then I started getting that sick feeling in my stomach — the one where you start to realize how good the Democrats are at losing elections. As much as I dislike the Clintstones, I have to admit that Hillary and Bill would not be letting themselves get bitch-slapped around by the Repubes the way Obama is.

As a black man I know he the position he’s in.
He can’t get too angry.
You know angry black man syndrome.
But he shouldn’t be this complacent either. He’ll be ready. McCain has crossed the bounds of decency too often for him to take this shit much longer.
Dan-O.They don’t see him coming, Dan-O. This is just tactics to let the “Repubes” (hahahaha) comfy with their uplift and then sha-zam, touchdown. Three pointer.
I dunno, Dan-O. “Repubes” clapped for Hillary at the R-Concert.
FBO? You know something we don’t?
He needs to be angry.
But he won’t.
BTW, McCain will still not be President. Even if he is elected. By everybody. 100% of the ballot and the electoral college. Why? Not born in the United States, born in Panama on a U.S. military base. It’s in court in New Hampshire just to keep him off the ballot, but Palin’s been instructed to be happy and supportive until Jan 3, when she and the RNC file a lawsuit in the SCOTUS and have her declared POTUS.
Game over.
Hello, New Zealand!
I’m still here, and as fired up as ever, you filthy hack.

Dan, great to have you back on form man.
The problem with the democrats is that they don’t know how to handle unworthy opponents. Getting the nomination is fine because really the democrat supporters want to make the smart choice. On one level, they will respond to rational arguments, and reasoned debate. They want the clever choice. The mudslinging gets attention, but it’s kind of a sideshow.
Then they find themselves up against a bunch of people who seem wilfully ignorant, who appeal to knee jerk prejudices and shallow morality. They just don’t know what to do — they can’t get a handle on the debate, because at the bottom of it there is no debate. The republicans don’t want the smartest available president. They want a reliable simpleton with straightforward values that you could write on the back of a postage stamp — and a naive conviction to pursue them without nuance.
Summarize what most democrats say in answer to a policy question, and it means, “that’s a complicated issue but fortunately I’m clever enough to handle it”. But what republicans want to hear is, “that’s simple. The answer has been obvious since Adam and Eve”. That’s what Bush and McCain serve up. The substance of the policy is unimportant — it’s the attitude that matters.
He was born on a military base? That’s good enough for the Constitution. I should know, I studied constitution law.

This thing is less an election than a national IQ test. If we flunk we get Squirrel Boy and the Moose Shooter.
Yeah, speak in short, simple, empty sentences.
Pander to the voters. Say anything even if you don’t believe it.
Play the Republicons game on their terms.
In short, change everything that has brought your candidacy so far.
Great advice.
Are you saying I’m Boris and Biden’s Natasha?
Man, I saw the same interview on Olbermann and had the same thought.
LOL @ SamG. That sort of “tactics” is the calling card of the delusional person. It is never advantageous to give your opponent ground.
Now that the campaign has started in earnest, the Republicans are going to do everything they can to smear Obama to the point that when you go to the polls to fill in the bubble by his name, even you have all sorts of gross mental associations.
Obama will either take it and keep pushing a “new politics” idea, trying to connect to people in their hearts and minds, which may or may not work (it doesn’t appear to be working for you, Dan) or he will try to return the smears and politics of fear and disgust and fail miserably. Republicans have that system down and the Democrats never got it. Besides, Obama’s just so much easier to smear than McCain.
I’m pretty sure this marks the first time the sentence “Thomas Friedman captures it well in his column today.” has ever been written.
so … whut? friedman & the times write it and you jez b’lieve it now?
don’t b’lieve the hype, dan-o. barry’s comin’ back wid a beeeg ol’ can o’ smack-down whup-ass, you know it. comin’ off all sly & shy … then he’s gonna rope-a-dope ‘em. you just watch.
hr – lisa nova had the best take on it.
Hey, Check out this fake McCain/Palin site. It’s very funny!!

Obama has become boring just like a certain blogger whose name I don’t want to mention but starts with “D” and ends with “N”.
I’m going to vote for Obama, but I think he looks more like a marionette than Kim Jong Il does.
thank you…
It was delightful to see Bill and Steve sharing a stage and reminiscing about their stuff, but I was surprised that Bill (gadgets) and Steve (widgets) didn’t settle the debate about the original inventor of the widget.
One can never have too many widgets. Somebody codes something you never even dreamed of wanting – suddenly everybody
