Spy shots from Apple campus

Filed: Tech

One of our operatives managed to infiltrate the mothership last week and sent out the following photos before being apprehended by Apple security, at which point we lost contact with the source, whose whereabouts remain unknown. Nevertheless the shots provide some insight into life at Apple. First shot, the sideways one, was the last thing our source sent — we believe it was taken as he was being knocked to the ground and taken away. Other shots were taken before that. Note the pretentious sign about artists and conformity (Best way to non-conform? Work at Apple and follow all the rules), and the peaceful, Zen-like motto on the license plate cover on the Honda. Nice.

Isn’t there a store there? I was going to have Arnie and Maria pick me up one of those “mothership” shirts. Damn, I’d hate for them to get tackled while walking out of the store.

I had a job interview at Apple in 2004. When I walked up on the campus I was confused by the sight of a small, huddled group of people in the northwest corner of the parking lot smoking cigarettes. I asked one of them why they were out there and the story was that thanks to the concealment of the shrubbery it was the one “safe” spot on the campus where you couldn’t be fired/”steved” for smoking on Apple property.

And no, they didn’t hire me.

Jaysus. I liked it better when you were FSJ and upholding this stuff as the Gold Standard.

The spot with the artist’s statement (across Mariani from AC6 on another company’s land) is one of the few areas you can smoke and not get in trouble; people used to go hide behind DeAnza 3 (the northwest/Donut Hole side), but Steve would get his little spies in AppleCare executive relations (he makes them work in a different building, but at least it’s not ten miles away anymore) to narc on the smokers. Then Steve would drive around in his CLS and try to run over the tobacco consumers while gesticulating wildly with his pinkies.

And really, smoking’s bad for you anyway.

SamG is right about something, though that really does just sound wrong. Windows along with Office and Windows Media Player fills me with an occult supernatural terror. I’m not just a Apple FanTard, I’ a great fan of that other California obsessive Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy, Angel, Firefly. WhedonlessTards)and I’m very happy to be a vampire like Angel or Spike. So vampire comparisons not problem. Have other Apple+WhedonTards notice the prevalence of Macs in Buffy/Angel? Willow’s laptop for several episode is a BlackBook; in Angel, Cordelia has the clam version; also in Angel, a minor demon character Merle has an original iMac; the evil law firm, Wolfram and Hart in Angel, use some iMacs. I’m sure there are other examples. Just off to drink the blood of a MicroTard. Windows users be very very afraid, particularly by the Bosphorus.

The Artist General conformity posters are all over the Bay Area; not an Apple employee, but a street musician who plays the hammer dulcimer. Worth a listen. See artistgeneral.com
